Your SSL Weekend Planner For Memorial Day Weekend

Chicago should be your destination for the Memorial Day weekend ahead!

Morning
Hop on the SSL, and get your morning started off with ease as you sit back and enjoy the ride to Chicago! We suggest riding train 502 that will arrive at Millennium Station at 9:13 a.m.

Start your morning off with a delicious breakfast at Wildberry Pancakes and Cafe (130 E. Randolph Street, Chicago IL), just a quick walk from Millennium. Given their extensive menu, the whole family is sure to find something they will love! Between slow roast brisket hash, homemade biscuits & gravy, florence benedict, veggie omelets, cinnamon roll pancakes, and banana pecan Belgian waffles, we guarantee you will leave happy with a full belly.

Only a short 10 minute walk from Wildberry, head over to Daley Plaza (50 W. Washington Street, Chicago IL) to see Chicago’s Memorial Day Parade Wreath Laying Ceremony that begins at 11am. During this ceremony, the City of Chicago honors fallen heroes and Gold Star family members who have lost a loved one in the United States Armed Forces to combat operations or while on active duty.

Afternoon
If it’s noon, it’s time for the parade! Walk a block east to State Street, and watch the parade that  honors all men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.

Every parade must come to an end, but we hope you are ready for more fun! Next, catch an Uber to the Randolph Street Market Festival (1341 W. Randolph Street, Chicago IL) where the Outdoor + Indoor Summer Season is kicking off with a season opener garden party! Experience up to 300 vendors with the best of unique art, decor, vintage fashion, fancy foods, and much more! Need a break? Enjoy drinks, food, and a live band in their market bars, cabana or shade shack.

Night
Lou Malnati’s, known for their deep-dish pizza, is not only a two minute walk from the market festival, but it is also one of our go-to dinner destinations (1235 W Randolph Street, Chicago IL). Sit back and relax over good conversation and great food.

To finish the day off, take an Uber back to Michigan Avenue where you MUST get dessert. It just so happens that Stan’s Donuts and Coffee (198-160 Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60601), as well as Garrett Popcorn Shops (151 Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60601) are close to Millennium Station. You cannot go wrong with either choice! There is also a Starbuck’s in Millennium Station that you can grab for the trip home.

Catch train 511 departing Millennium Station at 9:15 p.m., and have an enjoyable ride home from your fun-filled day in the city!
