Gary Metro Center Renovations to Impact Access to South Shore Platform

The Gary Public Transportation Corporation (GPTC) is beginning to renovate the Gary Metro Center.  As part of this work we were required to temporarily remove our Ticket Vending Machines located on the 2nd floor of the Metro Center.  We encourage South Shore passengers to use our convenient smartphone app as an easy to use alternative until the TVMs are reinstalled.  Passengers may also pay with cash ONLY on the train.

Skywalk Closure and Detour August 14-18

The contractor plans to temporarily close the skywalk connecting the Metro Center to our platform stairway and elevator as they repair the roof of the skywalk.  When the skywalk is closed passengers should use the stairway on the east side of Broadway to access the platform.  During this period, GPTC will provide shuttle service between the Metro Center and the Broadway platform entrance from 6 am – 9 am and from 5 pm – 7:30 pm.

When the skywalk is closed Gary Metro Center will not be accessible to passengers with disabilities.  We advise passengers with disabilities to use the East Chicago Station located at 5615 Indianapolis Blvd.

We regret any inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation as GPTC makes improvements to the Metro Center.
