The state budget bill, HEA 1001, passed by the Indiana General Assembly the last week of April of this year included a provision restructuring the Board of Trustees of the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD).
The new Board has 5 members, and is appointed by the Governor. The permanent chair of the Board is the Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Transportation, Joe McGuinness. The other members of the Board are elected officials, one from each of the 4 counties in NICTD’s service area, and there can be no more than 2 members from the same political party.
On Tuesday May 28, 2018, Governor Eric Holcomb announced he has appointed the following elected officials to the NICTD Board:
Lake County Karen Freeman-Wilson (D) Mayor, Gary
Porter County Jeff Good (R) Commissioner, Porter County,
LaPorte County Ron Meer (D) Mayor, Michigan City
St. Joseph County Andrew Kostielney (R) Commissioner, St. Joseph County
The NICTD board meeting scheduled for Friday, May 31 is cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date.
