As the Double Track Northwest Indiana Project nears completion this spring, it is important to note the major safety improvements now present in Michigan City. Prior to the project, the train traversed 10th and 11th Street without gates, bells or flashers. As part of the Double Track project, 20 rail-roadway at-grade crossings were permanently closed.
In partnership with Indiana Operation Lifesaver, the South Shore Line will once again be participating in National Rail Safety Week, Sept. 23-29, 2024, in which our teams will continue to spread awareness of rail safety to the surrounding communities in which we operate.
