CHESTERTON, Indiana – The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD), operator of the South Shore Line railroad, will temporarily close the Calumet Trail in both directions in the immediate vicinity of Dune Park Station in Chesterton beginning on July 25, 2022 for a duration of 28 days. The expected reopening date is Monday, August 22, 2022.
To thank local educators for their hard work, SSL is inviting teachers to ride the SSL for free July 18 – 24, on all off-peak weekday and all weekend trains (off-peak weekday trains arrive at Millennium Station after 9:30 am CST and depart Millennium Station before 3:30 pm and after 6:30 pm CST). To ride, educators will need to present a valid school ID.
To accommodate passengers attending the Kenny Chesney concert taking place at 5 p.m. June 25, 2022, at Soldier Field, the South Shore Line plans to stop select trains at Metra’s 18th Street Station, which connects passengers directly to the Soldier Field entrance via a pedestrian walkway. As 18th St. Station is not a regularly scheduled stop, SSL passengers utilizing 18th St. for this event should purchase tickets for Museum Campus/11th Street.
In an effort to accommodate an expected increase in ridership for the Chicago Pride Parade, the South Shore Line will offer additional capacity and extra passenger trains on Sunday, June 26, 2022.
The South Shore Line announces that it will again offer a “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” promotion, applicable for July monthly tickets. All monthly tickets purchased for the month of July 2022 will remain valid throughout August 2022.
