As the Double Track Northwest Indiana Project nears completion this spring, it is important to note the major safety improvements now present in Michigan City. Prior to the project, the train traversed 10th and 11th Street without gates, bells or flashers. As part of the Double Track project, 20 rail-roadway at-grade crossings were permanently closed.
In partnership with Indiana Operation Lifesaver, the South Shore Line will once again be participating in National Rail Safety Week, Sept. 23-29, 2024, in which our teams will continue to spread awareness of rail safety to the surrounding communities in which we operate. SSL representatives will be present at Dune Park, Miller, and Hammond Stations
In order to accommodate INDOT bridge construction near South Shore Line tracks in Portage, the SSL will provide busing substitution for eastbound train passengers between 9 p.m. – 3 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, through Friday, Sept. 27, at Miller, Portage/Ogden Dunes, and Dune Park stations.
