DOUBLE TRACK NORTHWEST INDIANA JUNE PUBLIC MEETINGS SHIFT TO ONLINE FORMAT

The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD), operator of the South Shore Line railroad, has three public sessions scheduled for June 9, 10 and 11 focused on station and parking designs for its Double Track Northwest Indiana (DT-NWI) Project. The meetings will be held online rather than in person due to COVID-19.

“The Double Track Northwest Indiana Project is progressing on schedule, and the NICTD team looks forward to sharing the latest information with the public,” said Michael Noland, NICTD President.

“The purpose of these workshops is to provide a general project update, and also share with the community how engineering plans have progressed at the 60% design stage,” said Nicole Barker, DT- NWI Project Manager.

The online format will allow people to view the latest station and parking plans and hear project engineers, architects, and other experts answer questions. Questions can either be submitted in advance or during the online meetings by emailing them to doubletracknwi@nictd.com.

Each session will involve the same general project update, and each session will emphasize a certain geography. The focus areas are as follows:

  • Tuesday, June 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. – Gary including Miller Station

  • Wednesday, June 10 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. – Michigan City including 11th Street Station

  • Thursday, June 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. – Portage/Ogden Dunes Station, Dune Park
