CHESTERTON, Indiana – The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD), operator of the South Shore Line railroad, will temporarily close the Calumet Trail in both directions in the immediate vicinity of Dune Park Station in Chesterton beginning on July 25, 2022 for a duration of 28 days. The expected reopening date is Monday, August 22, 2022.
To thank local educators for their hard work, SSL is inviting teachers to ride the SSL for free July 18 – 24, on all off-peak weekday and all weekend trains (off-peak weekday trains arrive at Millennium Station after 9:30 am CST and depart Millennium Station before 3:30 pm and after 6:30 pm CST). To ride, educators will need to present a valid school ID.
To accommodate passengers attending the Kenny Chesney concert taking place at 5 p.m. June 25, 2022, at Soldier Field, the South Shore Line plans to stop select trains at Metra’s 18th Street Station, which connects passengers directly to the Soldier Field entrance via a pedestrian walkway. As 18th St. Station is not a regularly scheduled stop, SSL passengers utilizing 18th St. for this event should purchase tickets for Museum Campus/11th Street.
In an effort to accommodate an expected increase in ridership for the Chicago Pride Parade, the South Shore Line will offer additional capacity and extra passenger trains on Sunday, June 26, 2022.
The South Shore Line announces that it will again offer a “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” promotion, applicable for July monthly tickets. All monthly tickets purchased for the month of July 2022 will remain valid throughout August 2022.
This notice is to advise you that the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District Board of Trustees will reschedule its regularly scheduled Executive Session and Meeting from July 25, 2022 to Monday August 1, 2022 at NICTD Offices, 33 East U.S. Highway 12, Chesterton, IN 46304-3514, as follows:
Due to ongoing construction and road closures associated with the Double Track NWI project, busing to Beverly Shores Station will be temporarily suspended, effective Monday, June 6.
The busing suspension is due to the closure of Broadway, and is expected to last approximately 14 days. During this time, there will be no service to Beverly Shores, and passengers are encouraged to board at Dune Park Station.
In observance of Memorial Day, the South Shore Line will operate a weekend/holiday train schedule on Monday, May 30, 2022.
South Shore ticket offices will also observe holiday hours on May 30, with the Millennium Station ticket office open from 9:35 a.m. to 5 p.m. All other ticket offices will be closed. The South Bend Airport ticket office will also be closed Friday, May 27; Saturday, May 28; and Sunday, May 29.
NICTD administrative offices in Chesterton and Michigan City will be closed Monday, May 30.
