Calling all Bank of America Chicago Marathon runners and observers: The South Shore Line invites you to leave your vehicle at one of our convenient stations in Indiana and take the South Shore Line to Chicago for all Bank of America Chicago Marathon events.
The South Shore Line and South Bend Public Transportation Corporation (Transpo) are pleased to announce that they will once again offer FREE shuttle bus service between the Airport and Notre Dame Stadium for this year’s home football schedule.
Jazz Fest August 31 to September 3
- August 31 and September 1: We will operate a weekday train schedule
- Bikes are permitted on WB Trains 6 and 106, and EB Trains 11 and 111
- Alcohol is prohibited on all trains after 7:00 pm. Glass bottles are prohibited at all times.
- September 2-3: We will operate a weekend/holiday train schedule
- Bikes are permitted on all bike rack equipped trains. For a list of weekend/holiday trains please click here

The South Shore is busing weekday passengers on select MID-DAY trains between Carroll Ave. and Dune Park Station.
Rush hour service is not affected.
Extra Westbound Service to Millennium Station on Saturday & Sunday
The South Shore will operate an extra westbound train to Millennium Station for the Air & Water Show. This extra will depart on westbound Train 606’s (9:57 a.m.) time from Portage/Ogden Dunes making all regular stops to Chicago.
The Gary Public Transportation Corporation (GPTC) is beginning to renovate the Gary Metro Center. As part of this work we were required to temporarily remove our Ticket Vending Machines located on the 2nd floor of the Metro Center. We encourage South Shore passengers to use our convenient smartphone app as an easy to use alternative until the TVMs are reinstalled. Passengers may also pay with cash ONLY on the train.
During South Shore Line’s (SSL) Teacher Appreciation Week, essay applications will be accepted from educators for a chance to win free field trip transportation for their class.
To thank local educators for their hard work, SSL created Teachers Appreciation Week, where educators are invited to ride the SSL for free from August 7- August 13, on all off-peak weekday and all weekend trains. To ride, educators will need to present a valid school ID.
In addition to free rides, SSL is offering teachers a chance to win free transportation for their class for a field trip!
An extra westbound train will operate on Thursday, August 3rd and Friday, August 4th from Dune Park on westbound Train 14’s time.
To show appreciation for local educators, the South Shore Line (SSL) is welcoming local educators to ride the train for free from Monday, August 7, through Sunday, August 13, on all off-peak and weekend trains.
