OPERATION LIFESAVER STATION SAFETY BLITZ DURING RAIL SAFETY WEEK

The South Shore Line passenger service Safety Committee, Operation Lifesaver and Transit Police from the South Shore, CN and IHB kicked-off National Rail Safety Week with a station blitz at Hammond Station and East Chicago Station. From September 11-17, the group promoted crossing safety education with the goal of changing public behavior near the rails and heighten awareness about the dangers associated with grade-crossing collisions and trespassing.

We reached out to approximately 500 passengers at the Hammond location and 900 passengers at the East Chicago Station with positive reception and interaction.  The station blitzes at both locations was successful.

A huge thank you to South Shore management for allowing safety committee members to participate in this event.
