South Shore News

The South Shore Line advises passengers that effective at 3 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, the platform on Track #1 (the south platform nearest the parking lot) at the Hammond train station will be permanently closed. In addition, the SSL will be single-tracking over a 5-mile corridor in this area in order to complete the connection into our brand new Hammond Gateway Station.

SSL passengers will continue to use Track #2 (north) platform at the existing Hammond Station until mid-October 2024 when Hammond service will move to the new Hammond Gateway Station (located at 4530 Sheffield Ave.).

Again: Beginning Saturday, Oct. 5, all trains at the existing Hammond Station will utilize the Track 2 platform.

As part of the track cutover, the following train adjustments will be in effect until further notice:

  • Eastbound Train #201 and Train #203 will be combined, and will depart Millennium Station on Train #203’s departure time of 6:25 a.m.
  • Westbound Train #228 and Train #30 will be combined out of Miller Station, and will depart Miller Station on Train #30’s departure time of 4:58 p.m. Train #30 will operate as regularly scheduled between South Bend and Miller.

Delays are possible due to the construction and single-tracking at Hammond, and we appreciate passengers’ patience and cooperation.
