South Shore Line will be offering 10% discounts on monthly passes during the month of March.
During the polar vortex, South Shore Line services were suspended for several days due to the extreme temperatures. Crews ran tests throughout the day and night during this time to determine whether rail lines were safe to run on. Unfortunately, the record-breaking temperatures caused problems ranging from downed electrical lines on South Shore Line’s tracks to damage on Metra Electric District tracks that the SSL runs on in Illinois, resulting in cancelled service on both train lines. Metra and South Shore Line crews worked around the clock to fix the issues in an expedited fashion.
South Shore Line recognizes the strain and inconvenience that suspended services have on commuters. Therefore, as a way to say thank you, South Shore Line is offering a 10% discount on monthly pass purchases for the month of March. Discount pricing will automatically be applied at the time the March pass is purchased. Discount for monthly passes purchased through the app with be available beginning Monday, February 25th. In addition, South Shore Line is offering free Westbound rides on all off-peak and weekend trains from February 9 – February 18 right in time for the Chicago Auto Show and Valentine’s Day.

We wanted to do something to let them know how much we appreciate them during this difficult time and every day. This is just our way of saying, ’Thank you for being such a loyal rider.’” said Michael Noland, South Shore Line President.
If you receive a paper monthly from Edenred Commuter Benefit Solutions or WiredCommute, you will not see a discount on your March ticket when you place your order. You will however, receive a 10% credit applied to your account for use on a future benefit Month. If you use a Commuter Check prepaid MasterCard® when purchasing your March ticket you will receive the 10% discount at the time of purchase.
For RTA Transit Benefit participants, you will receive a 10% discount when purchasing your March pass. You can contact your company administrator to have your monthly pre-tax benefit amount decreased or use your account balance for a future transit purchase.
WageWorks will honor the discount and will be conducting its own communication campaign.
If you receive your transit benefit from any other company, please contact your HR department. They should be able to assist you to make sure you receive your discount.
