In order to accommodate signal work related to the Double Track NWI Project, the South Shore Line will temporarily bus mid-day train passengers between Gary Metro Center and Carroll Ave. on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024 (and Friday, Jan. 5, if necessary). This is in addition to ongoing long-term busing between Gary Metro Center and Dune Park stations.
The mid-day busing between Carroll Ave. and Gary Metro on Jan. 4 will include the following trains:
- Westbound Tr 14, Tr 116, Tr 18, Tr 118, and Tr 20;
- Eastbound Tr 7, Tr 107, Tr 9, and Tr 109, with completion expected prior to Tr 11.
Buses will arrive and depart with passengers to match our published weekday train schedule between Carroll Ave. and Gary Metro Center. Buses will service intermediate stations. Train service will operate as regularly scheduled between the South Bend Airport and Carroll Ave. stations.
WESTBOUND: Passengers at Carroll Ave., 11th St., Beverly Shores, Dune Park, Portage/Ogden Dunes, and Miller (@ 6121 Melton Rd.) will board buses at the station. Passengers will disembark the bus at Gary Metro Center and board their regularly scheduled trains for the remainder of their westbound trips.
EASTBOUND: Passengers will disembark their trains at Gary Metro Center and board a bus for the remainder of their eastbound trips. South Bend passengers will board their regular trains again at Carroll Ave.
Following the completion of this work, temporary busing will remain in place between Gary Metro Center and Dune Park stations until the completion of the Double Track Project in spring 2024.
