The South Shore Line announces improvements to the East Chicago Station

MICHIGAN STREET STOPLIGHT:

Effective today Friday, Dec. 20, the SSL traffic signal has been activated at the new Michigan Street entrance/exit to the East Chicago Station parking lot.

The new entrance/exit is located across from the Lear Corp. entrance/exit on Michigan Street. This new intersection shared with Lear consists of the four-way traffic signal and signaled turn lanes.

FAR EAST LOT ENTRANCE:

Effective Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, the existing far east Michigan Street entrance/exit will be converted to anentrance-only for westbound Michigan Street traffic only. The area will be temporarily closed Dec. 22 while striping is completed. Following the striping, eastbound Michigan Street traffic will no longer be able to enter and no vehicles will be permitted to exit at the east end of the parking lot.

The Indianapolis Blvd. entrance/exit will not be impacted.

ROXANNA PARK OVERFLOW LOT:

Effective, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, the Roxanna Park parking lot (formerly Roxanna School) will be closed to SSL commuter overflow parking. The lot was made available to SSL commuters by the City of East Chicago for parking during construction only between Oct. 1 – Dec. 31, 2019.
