The NICTD Board met on Friday May 20 and approved a 2.5% increase in monthly fares and a $0.25 increase in one way ticket prices per year effective July 1, 2016 and July 1, 2017.

Click the line below to see a complete list of all fares. Monthly ticket prices are effective on all July monthly tickets that go on sale in mid-June. Earlier reports may have incorrectly indicated all increases would be effective June 15. NICTD regrets the error.

The Board made it clear that the fare increase is dedicated strictly to capital infrastructure projects and cannot be used to fund salaries, wages or other operating costs.

The Board also approved a change in its family fare increasing the number of children under the age of 14 who may ride free with each parent or adult on off-peak weekday and all weekend/holiday trains from one child to 3 children effective July 1.

In response to passenger requests the Board also approved a pilot program establishing a quiet car in all AM/PM rush hour trains effective July 1, 2016. More information on the details of the quiet car program will be available in June.
