Service Advisory Winter Weather Feb. 5-6, 2019

The National Weather Service has issued an ice storm warning for the Chicago area, along with a winter weather advisory for northwest Indiana, which is expected to adversely impact travel in the South Shore Line service area. The inclement weather is expected to begin late afternoon Feb. 5 into the morning of Feb. 6.

Unlike the sudden flash freeze in January 2017, this ice storm is coming with advance warning. As such, SSL crews will be closely monitoring train service as train delays may be possible due to the ice. Our team is on standby in the event train service is impacted.

SSL employees will be working continuously to minimize the severe weather impact, and ice-breaker trains will run late tonight and early morning to de-ice overhead wires prior to rush hour.

The National Weather Service advises roads may be “nearly impassible at times,” therefore passengers should allow extra travel time to get to destinations, and to exercise caution in parking lots and train platforms.

We regret any weather-related delays and appreciate your patience. Please watch for service announcements via our homepage at www.mysouthshoreline.com, our South Shore Line Facebook and Twitter pages, our mobile app, and email notifications.
