The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for Northern Indiana effective Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024. The advisory warns of dangerously hot conditions with heat index values around or greater than 105 degrees. High temperatures can adversely impact track, overhead wire, and other mechanical components.
Due to the extreme weather, the South Shore Line has implemented a temperature-based speed restriction for South Shore tracks between South Bend and Kensington.
Train maximum speeds will be decreased to minimize heat-related damage to track and overhead wire, and passengers can expect train delays until the speed restriction has been lifted.
Passengers please be at boarding stations on time in the event delays are less than expected.
